Russet House

The Orchard

When we took over the property the orchard contained about 60 fruit trees. We have extended the orchard by 2 rows with trees moved from what was the vegetable garden area along with new trees to replace those that were too big to be moved. There are now 76 fruit trees in the orchard with 2 more in the back garden. Of these 60 are apple trees, 7 plum, 5 pears, 2 gages, 1 damson, 1 quince and 1 crab apple. We have at least 65 different varieties. The variety count is uncertain as we have 6 apple trees yet to be identified.
